Rational Integration Tester Starter Edition

You can use the starter edition to get started quickly writing and running, stubs, and tests.
This starter edition is no-charge and can be downloaded from the following links: The starter edition provides a subset of the functions and features available in the full edition of Rational Integration Tester. It provides a springboard to Rational Integration Tester that includes capabilities but across numerous enterprise-based technologies from IBM and vendors such as SAP, TIBCO, Software AG. For a list of the capabilities in the starter edition and how they compare to the full edition, see Rational Integration Tester Starter Edition comparison.

Extract the contents of the downloaded zip file into a local folder. This folder is referred to as install_location in the getting started articles. If you are using Windows Explorer to extract the zip file, you must unzip it into a location in such a way that the resulting file path, including the directory Windows creates with the same name as the zip, has no more than 92 characters.

Rational Integration Tester Starter Edition

With the starter edition, you can use graphical tools to create and run integration tests for your web, RESTful, and SOAP services, JMS-based messaging applications, and other technologies. You can also virtualize services (stubbing) to control the data and create scenarios for application testing, and run them for up to 5 minutes, by these actions:
  • Simulating any endpoint that uses any of the support technologies.
  • Virtualizing database content that is accessed by using JDBC.

In addition, you can run virtual services based on HTTP or WebSphere® MQ transports by using Docker. Docker containers can be used to run virtual services locally, or in a public or private cloud.

Rational Test Control Panel Starter Edition

This starter edition that is also known as IBM® Rational Test Control Panel contains technology-specific components that are used by Rational Integration Tester for recording SOA message conversations, HTTP(S) and JDBC traffic, and for monitoring middleware systems under test with minimal reconfiguration of client applications.

It is the hub of communication between Integration Tester and those technology-specific components (in particular, the HTTP proxy).

It provides some sample APIs that you can use to get familiar with Rational Integration Tester.

Limitations

On Windows computers, the Rational Test Control Panel Starter Edition fails to start if you run the build from a path that includes a folder that is named with non-English characters.

Rational Integration Tester Starter Edition throws and logs a java.lang.IllegalStateException exception when you use Rational Test Control Panel Starter Edition and run a stub. This issue is due to Rational Integration Tester attempting to upload usage statistics, which is not supported by the Rational Test Control Panel Starter Edition. To avoid this issue, metrics must be turned off manually. For information about turning off metrics, see Viewing usage statistics in Rational Test Control Panel.
