Enabling IBM WebSphere Liberty and Open Liberty on Azure Red Hat OpenShift

Published date: December 09, 2020

Guidance to run IBM WebSphere Liberty and Open Liberty on Azure Red Hat OpenShift (ARO) has been established in close collaboration with IBM.

Customers can use the Open Liberty Operator and step by step instructions to run WebSphere Liberty or Open Liberty on an ARO cluster. These artifacts are intended to make it as easy as possible to get started with production ready deployments utilizing best practices from IBM and Microsoft.

The guidance uses official WebSphere Liberty and Open Liberty images provided by IBM. The guidance also demonstrates using the built-in container registry for Azure Red Hat OpenShift. The guidance allows for a high degree of configuration and customization.

In the next few months, IBM and Microsoft will provide similar guidance for running WebSphere Liberty and Open Liberty on the Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS). Next year we are working on the possibility to provide jointly developed and supported Marketplace offerings targeting WebSphere Traditional on Azure Virtual Machines, WebSphere Liberty/Open Liberty on ARO as well as WebSphere Liberty/Open Liberty on AKS.

More details on these solutions are available here. Customers are encouraged to evaluate these solutions for full production usage, provide feedback and engage the team developing these solutions.
