IBM Cloud Satellite: Build faster. Securely. Anywhere.

This past year, as the global pandemic upended both personal and professional lives around the world, we’ve all had to adjust to what is now known as “the new normal” – relying more and more on digital interactions for everything from work meetings to shopping for groceries to doctor visits. Companies, in turn, raced to transition to cloud environments to keep their businesses’ lights on and make experiences frictionless for consumers – many of which happen at the edge via billions of connected devices. In fact, a recent IBM study shows that 74% of CEOs believe cloud computing will be the most helpful technology to deliver results over the next 2-3 years.

However, as companies increasingly embrace cloud and edge computing, they also encounter greater risks. During the pandemic, cloud-based cyberattacks increased by 630%, with the potential to rise even further as more and more data is driven to the edge. So, how can businesses digitally transform with cloud, while also ensuring they have a secure environment where customers’ data is not compromised? The answer is clear: with a secure and open hybrid cloud architecture.

That’s why I’m very pleased to announce that IBM just realized a significant milestone in the expansion of our hybrid cloud capabilities with an offering called IBM Cloud Satellite. Clients can now deploy cloud services securely in any environment – public cloud, private cloud, on premise or at the edge. Since IBM Cloud Satellite operates as a distributed cloud environment, it extends the same security inherent within IBM Cloud – no matter where data is being collected, processed or shared. This is especially critical for those clients in highly regulated industries, such as telco, financial services, healthcare, and government, all of whom can now gain all the agility of cloud, while ensuring data privacy and sovereignty.

As one of dozens of clients and partners already working with IBM on Cloud Satellite, Lumen Technologies (previously CenturyLink) is leveraging IBM Cloud on their Lumen Edge Compute platform – giving their customers more flexibility in how they securely tap into the benefits of IBM Cloud at the edge, across 180,000 edge locations. And we’re further scaling our ecosystem through collaborations with more than 65 partners, including Cisco, Dell, Intel and others, who all realize the tremendous benefits of tapping into this technology to develop new hybrid cloud services for their clients.

This news marks a major advancement in IBM’s drive to bring our hybrid cloud strategy to life for our global clients across industries. That’s because IBM Cloud Satellite is truly “hybrid” in every sense of the word, even supporting the use of other public clouds. It also reinforces IBM Cloud’s leadership as the industry’s most secure and open cloud platform, enabling our clients to fully tap into the tremendous power of hybrid cloud.

As part of this announcement, I invite you to join us for a one-hour broadcast, IBM Cloud Satellite: Build faster. Securely. Anywhere., on March 9, 11:00 AM EST. And if you have any questions or would like to learn about our new Cloud Satellite capabilities, please visit here.
