Ports

IBM® Sametime® uses a number of ports. There are ports for connecting server to servers, clients to servers, and WebSphere Application Server ports to configure. The topics in this section list the default ports and their uses, and ports to open in firewalls. A range of ports means that the application can select any port in that range if one or more of those ports are already in use by other applications.

Port numbers in this section are default ports. Many of them are configurable. Configure with care. Some are service dependent, that is, only in use as needed, and not persistent connections. Your architecture may change these port numbers. For example, if you install multiple Sametime servers on the same WebSphere Application Server, it will automatically change the ports to avoid conflict.

Take special care with extranet connections that must go through firewalls. Be sure to share with your network team ahead of time about ports that need to be open in the firewalls. A table of ports that need to be opened in the firewall to the DMZ is included in the following list of port tables.
