IBM FileNet P8, Version 5.2.1

Creating an OpenStack storage device

OpenStack cloud storage devices can be associated with an advanced storage area. You can use SoftLayer, IBM Cloud Object Storage, or Spectrum Scale on GPFS Extension storage device types.

Before you begin

Before you create an advanced OpenStack device, you must obtain credentials for connecting to the OpenStack object storage provider. You can create a container where the FileNet® P8 content will be stored, or you can let the wizard create the container when you create the OpenStack storage device.

If you plan to use an IBM Cloud Object Storage storage device, you must first create the object vault, or container, in IBM Cloud Object Storage.

Procedure

To create an OpenStack storage device:

  1. Start the New OpenStack Cloud Storage Device wizard in the administration console:
    1. In the tree view, click the Object Store > object store name to open the object store that uses the device.
    2. In the object store tree view, right-click the Administrative > Storage > Advanced Storage > Advanced Storage Devices folder and click New OpenStack Cloud Storage Device.
  2. Complete the wizard. Start of changeThe values that you enter into the wizard fields differ depending on what kind of OpenStack storage device you are creating. The following table shows these differences:
Table 1. OpenStack Storage Device Wizard values
OpenStack Storage Device Type Field Values
SoftLayer Default values apply. Enter the required values for your environment.
    IBM Cloud Object Storage
    • OpenStack container name: Enter the name of the object vault to access.
    • Device connection URL: Enter the IP address or host name of the Accesser appliance or load balancer.
    • OpenStack authentication URL: Enter an API v1 authentication URL, for example, https://10.0.34.56/v1.0. Check with your IBM Cloud Object Storage administrator to get the correct value for the authentication URL.
To work with content larger than 5 GB, you must set the following configuration parameter to a number larger than the size of the largest content that will be handled, for example:
    OpenStack.Segment.Size= 10737418240
This example sets the segment size to 10 GB (1024*1024*1024*10). The created IBM Cloud Object Storage advanced storage device can correctly process any content that is less than 10 GB.
Spectrum Scale on GPFS Extension Device v4.1.1.1 The Device connection URL value must be in the Identity API v2.0 format, for example:
    https://my.spectrumscale.com/v2.0/tokens
    End of change
