Abstract

ITM Agent Insights: Authentication failures for WAS and DB2 in Jazz for Service Management

Body

Sometimes it can be very confusing when you are doing the right thing but the results do not reflect that. It can be frustrating trying to figure out what exactly went wrong.

When installing services provided under Jazz for Service Management (JazzSM), the installer fails to validate Websphere Application Server (WAS) or DB2 credentials. Depending on which services are installed either WAS or DB2 or both are needed. However the authentication for either fails in JazzSM, even though the passwords work fine when used directly in WAS and DB2. This is because JazzSM currently supports only alphanumeric passwords, where the length of characters used in the password is limited. JazzSM only allows for an eight (8) character password consisting of upper, lower or mixed case characters along with numbers. No special characters/symbols can be used in passwords with JazzSM at this time. If a password is used which does not conform to these requirements, JazzSM will report an authentication error even if the password works in WAS and DB2.

For more details you can review the following knowledge base article which describes the password restrictions:

Password changes may be required in environments to meet the above restrictions. The JazzSM architects are aware of this current limitation.
