Quantum technology is maturing quickly. This rapid development is creating important opportunities for governments and industries. Quantum computers are poised to solve a range of complicated problems that are impossible for today’s classical computers. But the progress also raises concerns: the technology currently used to safeguard sensitive data will not be secure in a world where quantum computers have reached their full potential.
Although cryptographic algorithms exist to ensure that data and computer systems are safe from quantum technologies, it’s up to industries and governments to adopt them. In this event, sponsored by IBM, security experts discuss how organisations should prepare for the quantum era, notably by adopting post-quantum cryptography algorithms, which will be standardised in 2024, in advance of more powerful quantum computers in the future.
