IBM InfoSphere Data Architect is a collaborative data-modeling and information-integration tool for discovering, modeling, relating, and standardizing diverse data assets. It helps you create new data models from scratch or by unifying disparate data sources in your organization. You can share models across a team, print them, publish them on the web, and translate them to physical implementations, which you can test and deploy.

Downloading and assembling the product
- Download the parts that you need. The parts for each platform are described in the tabbed section of this document.
- Unpack each of the parts into temporary directories on your system.
- Follow the instructions in the Installation Guide to install the product.
Updating from Version 7.6
You cannot use the update capabilities of Installation Manager to update InfoSphere Data Architect from version 7.6 to version 8.1, because 7.6 and 8.1 are based on different versions of Eclipse. However, you can perform one of the following steps:
- Install version 8.1 into a new package group. To reach your existing workspaces that contain your projects and models, specify the existing workspaces when you start the product.
- Uninstall version 7.6, then install version 8.1. Your workspace will not be removed when you uninstall version 7.6. To access the existing workspace after you install version 8.1, specify the existing workspace when you start the product.
