Introduction to the Open Source Incubator

Open source software is a primary vehicle for innovation. Adopting innovative open source software early poses an opportunity for businesses across industry. However, open source is not free. Business face some challenges adopting open source that must be overcome.

  • Open source is complex in terms of volume and dependencies. 1/3 of all open source was created in the past year.
  • Finding the right skills is difficult. 1/2 of large global enterprises rely on 3rd party services to operate and maintain open source software
  • Security is a top of mind concern for adoption for open source. More than 1/3 of enterprises cite security concerns as the leading barrier to adoption of open source software

IBM Research has launched a new program to help industry seize opportunity and overcome challenges posed by open source software.

The Open Source Incubator is a trusted advisor program with IBM Research. Business teams develop elite skills by tapping into the technical expertise of IBM Research to develop and implement open source use cases to prove business value.  IBM Research is contributing business critical open source software across hybrid cloud, security and AI/ML.

Together, Research and Industry can tackle business challenges and ensure robust open source software for broad scale adoption.
